Run the installer or open the store app
On a computer, open the downloaded installation file and follow its prompts. On mobile, use McAfee’s official route to the relevant app store, install and open the app.
Finish setup and verify
Sign in or enter the installation details requested by McAfee. Complete required permissions, updates or a restart, then review the subscription and protection status in the app.

Installing on Windows
Save open documents and close apps you are not using. McAfee’s Windows installation walkthrough recommends checking Windows updates before downloading from your account. Review installer options and system permission requests carefully. Screen labels can change between versions.
Installing on a Mac
Use the Mac download from your account. If the download screen supplies a serial number, keep it available for the installer. A retail activation key and a Mac installation serial number are not interchangeable. Follow the current permission instructions presented by the app.
Android, iPhone and iPad
Start with the official mobile download offered by McAfee. Verify the app publisher and use the account holding your subscription. Features vary by platform; do not assume that an iPhone app performs the same antivirus scanning as a Windows application.
Reinstalling or adding another device
A redeemed retail key does not need to be redeemed again. Return to the associated account and check which devices the plan covers. Use the new device’s operating system and keep the old device protected if you continue to use it.
Free trial or existing subscription?
A free download can be a trial with later charges, rather than a permanently free paid product. Review the current offer and renewal terms. If you already have an active subscription, start with its account download before accepting a new trial or purchase.
When installation stops
Note the exact message and whether it appeared during download, installation or sign-in. Check for a waiting permission window, a required restart or an incomplete download. Use official support for the specific error before removing working security software.
